Let's get one post-election excuse out of the way right now -- the old "we were outspent by the GOP and corporations." Not only did the Democrat party committees outspend the GOP ones, among outside groups the single biggest spender is the pro-Democrat government employees' union, which outspent the Chamber, Karl Rove and other Democrat boogeymen by tens of millions. Democrats outspent Republicans this year.
"The money race totals come to $856 million for the Democratic committees and their aligned outside groups, compared to $677 for their Republican adversaries, based on figures compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics," POLITICO reports today.
